Our client, based in Gqeberha, is looking to appoint a Counter Sales Assistant who will provide efficient internal sales support to customers by processing orders, preparing quotations, advising on hardware products, and ensuring excellent customer service. The role focuses on growing sales, maintaining strong customer relationships, and supporting external sales and branch operations

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Service
  • Assist walk-in, telephonic, and email customers with product enquiries.
  • Provide professional advice on hardware products, tools, building materials, and related solutions.
  • Prepare accurate quotations based on customer requirements.
  • Convert quotations into confirmed sales orders.
  • Upsell and cross-sell complementary products.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, retailers, and trade customers.
  • Follow up on outstanding quotations and back orders.
Order Processing & Administration
  • Capture sales orders accurately on the system.
  • Ensure correct pricing, discounts, and stock availability.
  • Liaise with warehouse and dispatch teams regarding order fulfilment.
  • Coordinate special orders with suppliers when stock is unavailable.
  • Process returns, credits, and exchanges in line with company policy.
  • Maintain customer records and account details.
Product Knowledge
  • Maintain strong knowledge of hardware products, including:
    • Hand and power tools
    • Fasteners and fixings
    • Plumbing supplies
    • Electrical items
    • Paint and adhesives
    • Building materials
    • PPE and safety equipment
  • Stay updated on new product ranges and supplier promotions.
Team & Branch Support
  • Work closely with external sales representatives.
  • Support stock takes and merchandising when required.
  • Assist with supplier promotions and in-store campaigns.
  • Ensure the sales counter and showroom remain neat and customer-friendly.
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • 2–5 years’ internal sales experience within the hardware, building materials and tools.
  • Strong product knowledge of hardware-related items.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, POS/ERP systems, quotations, invoicing).
  • Strong numerical accuracy and administration skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
