Our client is looking for the expertise of a Senior Technical Consultant to join their team.

This is a contracting position – 1 year contract with good prospects for renewal.

Job Description

To be the custodian of technical thought leadership within Group Technology (GT) environment by providing expertise, guidance and advice that relates to the integration of solutions across multiple technologies, and the supporting-processes such that GT is able to deliver sustainable and quality solutions in alignment to the overall strategy of the Bank whilst growing the technical expertise within the organization.

Core Responsibilities

Storage Engineering & Architecture

• Design and implement enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS, Object Storage, Hyper Converged).
• Configure and optimise storage arrays (e.g., Dell PowerMax, Pure Storage, Hitachi, NetApp).
• Define storage tiering strategies aligned to performance, cost, and workload needs.
• Develop capacity planning models and forecasting reports.
• Lead storage refresh, upgrades, migrations, and consolidation programmes.

Backup & Recovery Management

• Architect backup solutions using platforms such as Commvault, Veeam, TSM, Rubrik, or Cohesity.
• Develop backup policies, schedules, retention management, and media workflows.
• Implement DR solutions and test recovery capabilities for critical workloads.
• Optimise backup windows, deduplication, compression, and storage efficiencies.
• Integrate backup platforms with cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP).

Archiving & Compliance

• Develop enterprise archiving strategies (structured + unstructured data).
• Implement archiving tools such as IBM Optim, Mimecast, Enterprise Vault, or cloud native archives.
• Ensure compliance with POPIA, PFMA, National Archives Act, SARB, SARS, and internal governance.
• Drive defensible retention, classification policies, and data lifecycle management.

The resources should have the following in-depth skills:

• UNIX: Solaris and AIX
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• VMware Certified Professional
• Cisco Fabric
• Cisco Nexus
• Microsoft: Microsoft Windows Servers
• Backup – NetBackup and Commvault

Hardware

• Dell, HP, Intel, Cisco UCS, Sun Server Hardware, EMC, Dell Compellent, Hitachi VSP, HUSVM, HUS, F5 BigIP, Brocade SAN switches, Cisco MDS SAN switches

Salary rate per hour:  Depending on experience and qualifications
