Our client is seeking a Fabrication Manager who will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling all fabrication, milling, and stock management activities to ensure efficient production, quality compliance, cost control, and on-time delivery. This role requires a candidate with strong leadership, technical expertise in steel fabrication, and a hands-on approach to managing multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication Operations

  • Manage and oversee daily fabrication activities including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.
  • Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery deadlines are consistently met.
  • Interpret and review technical drawings, specifications, and job cards.
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

Milling Department

  • Oversee milling operations to ensure accuracy, productivity, and adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure proper machine utilization, tooling availability, and preventive maintenance.
  • Work closely with engineering and production planning to align milling output with fabrication needs.

Stock & Inventory Management

  • Oversee raw material, work-in-progress, and finished goods stock control.
  • Ensure accurate stock levels, minimizing shortages and overstocking.
  • Implement and maintain effective stock control systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of materials.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all work comply with industry quality standards and company procedures.
  • Enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations (OHS Act).
  • Conduct regular inspections, Planned job Task observations, and toolbox talks.
  • Address non-conformances and implement corrective actions.

People Management

  • Lead, train, and develop supervisors and shop-floor staff.
  • Manage performance, attendance, discipline, and skills development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Planning & Reporting

  • Plan production schedules in line with customer demand and capacity.
  • Monitor Objective and Target KPIs such as productivity, scrap rates, downtime, and labour efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit daily operational and production reports.
  • Assist with budgeting and cost control initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Trade Test in Welding, Boiler making, Fitting & Turning, or similar (essential)
  • Diploma or Certificate in Production Management, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management (advantageous)

Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in steel fabrication or heavy engineering
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Proven experience managing fabrication, milling, and stock control functions
  • Welders’ qualifications AWS, ASME management
  • ISO9002 – ISO45000 and ISO18000 experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes and machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Sound understanding of milling operations
  • Solid understanding of production planning and inventory control
  • Computer literacy (ERP systems, Excel, production reporting)

 Working Conditions

  • May require overtime or extended hours during peak production periods

Salary: Market Related

Location: Germiston

Start Date: Immediate

Working Hours: (Dayshift) 07:00- 17:00 Monday- Thursday 07:00- 14:00 Friday
