Job Description:

Our client, a major mining operation, seeks an experienced Senior Drill and Blast Mining Engineer to oversee and coordinate all drill and blast activities under short‑term mine planning. The role includes developing blast designs, optimizing blasting parameters, ensuring compliance with safety standards, training junior engineers, and contributing to production planning and cost control.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with all HSE policies, procedures and regulations with commitment to Zero Harm.
• Use geological, survey and mine planning data to produce blast masters, designs, timing and drill patterns.
• Collaborate with senior planning engineers to develop executable blast plans aligned with equipment capacity.
• Optimize blasting parameters (burden/spacing, hole depth, shot timing) to improve fragmentation and wall control.
• Ensure alignment of drill and blast plans with short-, medium- and long-term mining strategies.
• Prepare monthly drill and blast cost reconciliations and forecasts.
• Assist in drill & blast budgeting and operational cost reviews.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and lead training, coaching and mentoring of junior staff.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Minimum BSc Degree in Mining Engineering.
• 5+ years drill & blast experience in hard‑rock open‑pit operations.
• Experience with large open‑pit operations using excavators and large trucks.
• Proficiency in drill and blast design software (Surpac, Deswik, ShotPlus)
• Experience training, mentoring and developing junior personnel.
• Valid driving licence and ability to operate in rough terrain.
• Possession of blasting licence/ticket.
• Experience managing contractors.
