Compliance Officer – Cape Town, South Africa

 

Our client, a professional services/law firm, is seeking a Compliance Officer with 5+ years experience, with solid FICA experience. This individual will utilise their legal expertise to ensure the company complies with legal standards and internal policies. They will enforce regulations at all business levels and offer expert guidance on compliance and legal issues.

 

Salary: Market related CTC (depending on experience and qualifications)

Position type: Permanent office based only

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or similar
  • Admission as an attorney in South Africa will be an advantage.
  • 5+ years experience as a Compliance Officer
  • Solid FICA experience
  • Certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance, AML, & Ethics Professional (CCEP)) is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record-keeping.
  • Strong business acumen partnered with a dedication to legality.
  • Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities.
  • An analytical mind able to “see” the complexities of procedures and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage control systems to prevent or address legal and policy violations.
  • Provide legal advice on compliance issues to ensure regulatory alignment.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve control efficiency, identifying risks.
  • Draft and implement legally sound company policies.
  • Collaborate with legal and HR teams to enforce standards and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research and stay informed on regulatory changes.
  • Assess future business ventures for compliance and legal risks.
  • Review colleagues’ work for compliance issues and offer legal guidance or training.
  • Prepare detailed reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
