Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Site Manager with a background in exploration and production drilling within the mining sector in Africa to lead the activities on site for multiple drilling operations.

 

Responsibilities:

• Overseeing multiple drilling projects to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
• Oversee daily drilling operations and site activities including coordination of manpower, equipment, maintenance and resources.
• Leading, mentoring, and training drilling crews to maintain high performance and safety standards.
• Managing drilling operations, workshops, camps, and related sites.
• Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with company goals and culture.
• Making high-level operational decisions and coordinating across departments.
• Applying broad industry knowledge to integrate all aspects of drilling operations.
• Delivering a professional, reliable, and high-quality drilling service.
• Assisting in planning and preparing for drilling projects.
• Promote and uphold the company’s safety culture
• Maintaining and strengthening client relationships.
• Ensure accurate daily reporting and record-keeping.
• Contribute to project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Troubleshoot operational and technical issues on site.
• Oversee purchasing, stock control, and vendor management, planning and managing cost-effective procurement of equipment and materials and negotiating with local suppliers for the best value and efficiency.

 

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Diploma or degree in Drilling, Mining Engineering, Geology, or similar relevant field.
• 10+ years of experience in exploration and production drilling within the mining sector, preferably in a contractor capacity.
• 5 years’ minimum experience in a Site Manager or Drilling Superintendent role, overseeing multiple operations.
• Strong understanding of various drilling methods (RC, diamond, rotary), geological formations, and technical drilling procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to manage daily field operations, including personnel, equipment, and logistics.
• Experience working in remote or camp-based mining projects within Africa.
• Sound knowledge of HSE practices, with a commitment to safety leadership and compliance.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and train drilling crews.
• Capable of client relationship management and maintaining professionalism on site.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in field-based technical and operational challenges.
• Proficient in daily reporting, performance tracking, and operational documentation.
• Experience in budget management, procurement, stock control, and vendor negotiations.
• Ability to plan and execute drilling projects to meet production targets and quality standards.
