Job Description:
Our client, a leading mining company operating in Zambia, is committed to excellence in mineral extraction while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. They are seeking a skilled PIT Supervisor to join their team and contribute to the success of their mining operations. The PIT Supervisor will oversee daily operations within the mining pit, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive activities. This role involves managing a team of operators, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining compliance with safety and operational standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a proven safety record, and extensive experience in open-pit or underground mining environments.
Responsibilities:
- Operational Oversight: Manage and coordinate daily pit operations, including equipment allocation, task assignments, and production schedules to meet operational targets.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, conducting regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and ensuring all team members are trained in safety procedures.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate a team of operators, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Production Optimization: Collaborate with engineering, geology, and maintenance teams to optimize pit production, minimize downtime, and ensure high-quality output.
- Equipment Management: Oversee the use and basic maintenance of heavy machinery and equipment, reporting any issues to the maintenance department promptly.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production, safety incidents, and operational metrics, providing regular reports to senior management.
- Environmental Stewardship: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies to minimize the operation’s environmental impact.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit or underground mining operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Education: Diploma or degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mining equipment, pit operations, and safety management systems.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety Record: Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety with a track record of maintaining high safety standards.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in variable terrain and environmental conditions, with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
- Certifications: Valid certifications in mine safety, first aid, or other relevant areas are highly desirable.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including extended shifts in a mining environment.
