Responsibilities:
Resource Mobilisation and Business Development:
- Mobilize resources to support Africa’s development by promoting targeted investment opportunities created by the Bank for the Diaspora, such as African Diaspora Development Investment Notes (ADADIN), Country-specific and Afreximbank-targeted Diaspora Bond Issuances, and Diaspora savings mobilization.
- Facilitate the flow of Diaspora funds into the Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA).
- Market and promote relevant Bank products, initiatives, and programs to the Diaspora community.
- Encourage remittance flows to Africa as a critical source of external financing, through the promotion of the Bank’s Remittance-Backed Country Programme and investment products.
- Support fundraising by the Bank and Bank group entities, including bond issuance, letters of credit, investment etc.
Sub-National Government Engagement:
- Develop and maintain relationships between Afreximbank and sub-national governments (cities and states) with significant African American populations or those led by African Americans for the promotion of commercial and cultural exchanges.
Advocacy:
- Advocate with the U.S. Government, other governments, and key development agencies to advance Afreximbank’s objectives.
- Position the Afreximbank Global Africa Gateway as a pan-African platform that harnesses cultural and heritage assets to shape narratives and influence Western policies to support Africa’s development.
- Identify commercial opportunities linked to culture and heritage that can generate jobs for Africa’s youth.
- Promote Africa among African Americans. Promote key initiatives such as IATF, CANEX, the Bank etc.
Trade and Investment Promotion:
- Promote investments and market entry into Africa by the Diaspora using Afreximbank’s Trade Intelligence Solutions.
- Plan, budget, implement, and deliver Trade and Investment Forums targeting Diaspora engagement to attract trade and investment into Africa and the Caribbean.
- Collaborate with partners such as the African Union, AfCFTA Secretariat, and internal departments to successfully deliver trade, investment, and diaspora-related programs.
- Manage diaspora relationships and engage with organizers, suppliers, consultants, partners, and stakeholders to achieve key performance targets.
- Support African Diaspora investment exploration through business matchmaking, trade missions, and forums.
- Promote Made-in-Africa products to the African Diaspora.
- Support African businesses identify market and investment opportunities including twinning opportunities.
Skills and Knowledge Exchange:
- Facilitate technical capacity-building and knowledge exchange programmes and initiatives by repatriating diaspora skills to the continent and exporting skills from the continent to diaspora communities.
Research:
- Conduct studies to bridge information gaps between Africa and its Diaspora, identifying market opportunities for African goods and services.
- Provide insights into remittance flows, diaspora savings, and other relevant metrics to inform policy and investment decisions.
- Serve as a reservoir of data and thought leadership for all African diaspora-related matters.
- Facilitate data collection on the diaspora including available resources (e.g., human capital, savings, pension funds), business engagements and remittances for the benefit of governments, banks and businesses.
Building Bridges:
- Foster linkages between the Diaspora and organizations such as the African Union, AfCFTA, and CARICOM Secretariat to enhance trade, investment, market opportunities, and policy interventions.
Implementation Monitoring:
- Ensure the effective implementation of the Afreximbank Global Africa Gateway program at The Africa Centre, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s mandate.
- Facilitate communication and integration of the Bank’s trade facilitation and financing initiatives within the program.
- Provide strategic feedback to the Bank for coherent implementation.
Stakeholder management:
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, partners, potential investors, and the general Diaspora community to enhance collaboration and achieve strategic objectives.
Market Information Access:
- Facilitate access to trade, market, and investment information from the Diaspora to enhance the Bank’s knowledge database and ensure effective implementation of its initiatives.
Secretariat Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Secretariat for diaspora-related events by organizing meetings, establishing technical committees and subcommittees, maintaining proper documentation, and managing activity budgets.
- Chair meetings as required and ensure alignment with the Bank’s objectives. Engagement, planning, implementation, and delivery of the Afreximbank Global Africa Centre as an ongoing Programme. This will include but will not be limited to mobilising resources, managing relationships, undertaking research, advocacy, and trade and investment promotion.
Program Management:
- Plan, implement, and deliver the Afreximbank Global Africa Gateway program as an ongoing initiative, encompassing resource mobilization, relationship management, research, advocacy, and trade and investment promotion.
- Support Afreximbank’s board members serving on the Board of the Africa Centre. Any other duties may be assigned from time to time by the Bank.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Bank.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Master’s & Bachelor’s degrees in business administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate banking, relationship management or client services.
- Knowledge of finance programmes and ability to sell them.
Contractual information:
- Permanent.
- Willing and able to relocate to New York for the opportunity.
