PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To manage the business entity cost effectively by leading, empowering and developing the transport team, including logistics, workshop and administrative staff, to ensure the optimal growth and profitability thereof.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall transport management
- Develop and implement transport business goals
- Implement programmes to achieve business goals
- Ensure cost efficient transport operations
- Ensure business growth
- Identify business risks and manage according
- Identify opportunities to improve logistics delivery
- Identify opportunities to improve transport mechanical workshop delivery
- Do the budget of the business and manage accordingly
- Maintain excellent working knowledge of, and work proactively and in accordance with all current and anticipated legislative requirements and best practice relevant to the transport industry.
- Oversee vehicle management, including liaison with fleet, safe vehicle operations, wheel security, monitors vehicle gross weights.
- Manage of subcontractors base
- Member of the Exco of Company
- Participate in strategic planning of Company
- Submit regular reports to top management
- Effective management of the transport business results in consistent growth and optimum profitability
- Budget targets are consistently met
Logistics management
- Oversee the logistics function of the business
- Ensure the effective, cost-efficient and timeous delivery of products
- Ensure the optimal utilisation and profitability of the trucks/fleet
- Plan driver resource strategically, tactically and operationally to utilise fleet to its maximum capacity, fully utilising software and hardware platforms.
- Grow external client base to achieve back-loads and growth in other sectors
- Fleet utilisation is consistently within budget targets
- Growth of external client base ensures regular back-loads and growth in turnover
- On-time delivery of products is a constant feature of the business
Workshop management
- Oversee transport mechanical workshop function of the business
- Ensure cost-efficient execution of mechanical work
- Ensure optimal functionality of the business‘ trucks and other vehicles
- Effective and cost-efficient management of the workshop result in above average functionality of all vehicles
Customer relations
- Champion a ‘customer first’ approach.
- Understand and appreciate customer requirements and quality standards.
- Engage with internal and external customers to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Develop and maintain sound relationships with customers to ensure sustainable growth of the business
- Works closely with the Mills team and other key stakeholders to ensure that all logistics solutions are fully integrated and designed to improve customer service.
- Consistent sound customer service is evident in positive customer responses
- Sound customer relations exists as is evident in established long-term relationships and the growth achieved as a result
Finance and admin
- Exercise control over the financial and administrative functions of the business
- Ensure that financial statements are delivered on time
- Ensure statutory compliance regarding financial matters
- Ensure timely completion of all administrative processes.
- Financial statements are consistently delivered on time
- Consistently complies with statutory regulations
- All administrative processes are always completed accurately and timeously
People management
- Lead, empower and develop employees to achieve optimal results

Health and safety
- Ensure Health and Safety, Environmental and Operator’s License compliance
- Ensure that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting and emergency procedures.
- Consistently meet business KPI’s for health and safety
- Business consistently fully complies with all health and safety legislation and always pass audits in this regard
Food safety
- Promote food safety by applying and adhering to the food safety policies and procedures of clients
- Ensure that all food safety admin is executed accurately
- Ensure that vehicles are cleaned in accordance with food safety requirements
- Food safety procedures are executed accurately on a daily basis
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Tertiary degree in Transport Management or related qualification
