New role is available for a Foundry Optimisation Engineer in Port Elizabeth.
Are you an analytically minded engineer with a passion for process improvement and product optimization?

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Performance: Monitor and improve Foundry-related scrap rates, rework, and First-Time Pass rates, ensuring alignment with departmental targets.
  • Resource Efficiency: Optimize the use of resources to reduce energy consumption and explore alternative processes or products to improve efficiency.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage Foundry and Service Department projects, including contractor liaison, planning, cost control, and return-on-investment analysis. Provide detailed equipment drawings and departmental layout changes when required.
  • Failure Investigation: Conduct lab-based investigations into material failures and process-related defects. Produce detailed reports identifying root causes, recommended solutions, and corrective action plans.
  • Design & Documentation: Develop and maintain a comprehensive mold library, including exploded views, general assemblies, individual cores, and cooling assemblies with detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications.
Qualifications:
  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field (essential).
  • Proficiency in MS ProjectsAutoCAD 2D, and Autodesk Inventor (advantageous).
  • Exposure to 3D modeling and simulation tools such as Magma (advantageous).
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience:
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a production or manufacturing environment (essential).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ engineering experience post-qualification, ideally involving machine manufacturing, installations, and project management.
  • Experience with Die Casting, aluminum solidification, mold design, and casting processes (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with tool-makingCNC programming, and 2D/3D design engineering.
