Quality Control and Quality Assessment (QA/QC) Lead - Structural, Mechanical, Piping and Platework

Rotation is 9 weeks on site and 9 days at home excluding travel
Job Summary:
The QA/QC Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality management processes for construction projects in Mozambique, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements. This role involves developing and implementing quality control plans, supervising a team of quality control professionals, conducting regular inspections and audits, and collaborating closely with project management and construction teams to maintain the highest quality standards throughout the project lifecycle. The QA/QC Lead will also address non-conformance issues, manage documentation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve quality excellence.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the quality control plan for the construction project, ensuring alignment with industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor compliance with quality standards, identifying and addressing any non-conformance issues.
  • Supervise and mentor the quality control team, providing training and support as needed to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with project management and construction teams to ensure quality standards are understood and adhered to at all stages of the project.
  • Review and approve all quality-related documentation, including inspection and test plans, material certifications, and quality reports.
  • Conduct regular audits of construction processes, materials, and workmanship to ensure compliance with specifications, industry standards, and local regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality control activities, including inspection reports, test results, and corrective actions taken.
  • Facilitate communication with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies regarding quality control issues, progress, and resolutions.
  • Lead root cause analysis for any quality-related issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to quality assurance in construction.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of construction quality control processes, standards, and regulations.
  • Proven experience in a quality control role within the construction industry, with a focus on site operations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide team members to achieve high standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and manage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in quality management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Education and Formal Training:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications in quality management (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma) are advantageous.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in quality control within the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing a quality control team.
Additional Information:
  • This role may require travel to various project sites across Africa.
  • Accommodation and transportation arrangements will be provided as necessary.
  • Work Environment:
    • Hours: Standard business hours. Potential overtime may be required based on project demands and logistics needs.

    • An annual performance review will be conducted with your line manager to assess overall output and effectiveness in your role. This review will provide an opportunity to measure your achievements against set goals, identify any areas of concern, and discuss potential improvements. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to evaluate any training needs or professional development opportunities that could enhance your performance and contribute to your growth within the company.
