Job Description

My client is seeking a self motivated individual to join their Finance Team as an Assistant Accountant in the Logistics Industry.  You will play a vital role in supporting various accounting functions including accounts payable.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable: Approve vendor invoices and PODs to ensure timely payments. Reconcile vendor statements and prepare accurate reconciliations and resolve discrepancies and queries and maintain vendor relationships
  • Bank Reconciliation: Ensure accurate recording of transactions and prepare payment uploads, accurately process debit adjustments
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations, assist in implementing new policies and procedures as needed
  • Manage a POD and billing team to ensure accurate and timely preparation of payments
  • Address and resolve queries to ensure vendor accounts are accurate
  • Attend weekly query meetings to gain assistance from other departments to resolve queries
  • Release and approve all bills after confirming that the bills are correct
  • Request vendor statements and save them in the applicable files
  • Correctly prepare the vendors monthly reconciliations in the correct format and within the agreed cut-off dates
  • Action queries for invoices not paid on the vendor recons
  • Prepare and calculate payment requests from vendors
  • Prepare the vendor payout list to allocate vendor payments
  • Send remittances to vendors
  • Generate purchase orders
  • Confirm original PODs received as correct as per vendor specifications
  • Update applicable reports

Requirements:

  • Certificate or diploma in an Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 1-3 years of accounts and finance experience, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry
  • Have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Be proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Have strong numerical skills with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Have the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively and work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Be able to perform well under pressure
  • Must be honest, punctual, and reliable
  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime
