Our client is seeking an experienced Packhouse Manager to oversee the efficient operation of their packhouse. The successful candidate will lead the team, coordinate packing activities, drive performance, and ensure high standards of quality, food safety, compliance and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute effective operational strategies and plans to support the efficient functioning of the packhouse.
  • Drive the achievement of packhouse targets by monitoring performance against agreed KPIs and operational objectives.
  • Provide strong leadership, direction and motivation to the packhouse team to ensure productivity and performance standards are consistently achieved.
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily packing programme in line with priorities and requirements established by the Marketing department.
  • Ensure all packed products consistently meet specified quality standards, customer requirements and relevant market specifications.
  • Manage personnel effectively, ensuring adherence to company procedures, policies and employment standards.
  • Maintain and enforce high standards of product quality, food safety, hygiene and sanitation throughout packhouse operations.
  • Monitor and control operational expenditure, ensuring packhouse costs remain within approved budgets.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and take ownership of continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure that all packhouse activities comply with applicable quality, occupational health and safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

Key Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Production, Operations Management, Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficient computer skills, with practical experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a production environment, preferably within the citrus industry, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with employees, management and other stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding and practical knowledge of quality, food safety, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems, including BRC, HACCP, ISO, SIZA and GlobalG.A.P. standards and accreditation requirements.
