Underground Mine Planning Superintendent - CA Global Group
Job Description:
We are partnering with a well-established international mining group to appoint an experienced Underground Mine Planning Superintendent as they build out their underground operations in Asia. This is a transverse open stoping operation with backfill, and the priority is a hands-on engineering leader who has run this style of mining – not a planner in isolation. Offered on an expatriate FIFO or residential basis within the mine technical services team, you will head up the underground mine engineering function and a small team, owning stope and development design, drill and blast, ventilation and the short-to-mid term schedule while working shoulder-to-shoulder with operations to hit production and cost targets. The position reports to the Senior Superintendent for the Integrated Mine Planning division.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop and mentor the underground mine engineering team, partnering closely with operations to achieve production and cost targets.
- Own stope and development design for a transverse open stoping operation, including the backfill (paste or cemented rock fill) interface.
- Oversee and approve development and production drill and blast plans, including ring design, and set drill and blast and stope design standards and ensure compliance.
- Build and maintain development and production schedules across the short-term and mid-term planning horizons.
- Monitor and simulate the mine ventilation and dewatering networks.
- Ensure underground designs, including ground support and their interface with ventilation and backfill requirements, are practical, safe and cost-effective.
- Monitor progress against plan and budget, reporting and addressing significant deviations.
- Lead engineering studies supporting the LOM alongside internal and external subject-matter experts, and align underground plans to the integrated mine schedules.
- Identify and drive improvements in productivity and cost reduction.
- Undertake project work as required.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or equivalent), backed by membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body.
- At least 8 years in underground hard-rock operations, with direct, hands-on experience of transverse (and/or longitudinal) open stoping and backfill – paste or cemented rock fill.
- Proven operational leadership: a track record of leading engineering teams and delivering alongside production, ideally gained at established underground operators.
- Strong command of the underground mining cycle – stope and development design, drill and blast including ring design, ground support and ventilation.
- A firm grasp of the geotechnical principles that govern underground work.
- Competence with mine planning and scheduling software (Deswik, Vulcan, Datamine or similar).
- A proven track record across budgeting, cost control and financial analysis in a mining setting.
- Confident leadership and people-management ability, with a knack for coaching, mentoring and drawing the best from a multicultural workforce.
- Full written and spoken English, sufficient for reporting and working alongside international teams.
- A valid vehicle licence.
Benefits and Contractual information:
- Residential or FIFO status
- Full expatriate benefits package
- Attractive USD-denominated salary
- Renewable fixed-term contract
