Lead the Buying Function for a Respected Building Contractor

A well-established medium-sized building contractor based in the Sandton area is looking to appoint an experienced Construction Buyer to lead and manage its Buying Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced project environment and has a proven track record in procurement, supplier management, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the company's buying and procurement department.
• Procure construction materials, plant, equipment, and subcontract services for multiple building projects.
• Negotiate competitive pricing, terms, and supplier agreements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Ensure timely procurement to meet project programmes and minimise delays.
• Manage purchase orders, deliveries, and supplier performance.
• Monitor material costs and identify value engineering opportunities.
• Work closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors, and the Finance Department.
• Maintain accurate procurement records and reporting using BuildSmart.
• Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
• Minimum Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Construction Buyer within the building industry.
• Previous experience leading or supervising a buying/procurement department.
• Strong working knowledge of BuildSmart is essential.
• Excellent understanding of construction materials, procurement processes, and supplier networks.
• Strong negotiation, organisational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Stable employment record with contactable references.
